Cycling is very popular with mountain biking in the Whinlatter Forest Park. Bikes may be hired from the Visitor Centre. The c2c cycle route also passes through Loweswater, Lorton and Whinlatter Forest.

Climbing at all levels of ability is found mainly in the Buttermere to Honister area. Guide books and equipment are readily available at the excellent outdoor shops particularly in Keswick including George Fisher. 

Boat hire is available on Buttermere (at Gatesgarth), Crummock Water(at Wood House) and Loweswater (at Waterend Farm)

Tennis courts are near the centre of Lorton village, with two top class hard courts and two grass courts.

Fishing is available by permit in the valley  and on the coast.

You are not far from the coast with beaches at Silloth and St Bees especially attractive.
