Golf in the area……..

There are several quality golf courses within comfortable reach of the Buttermere-Lorton area but the closest to hand are near the towns of Cockermouth and Keswick.

Cockermouth is a hilltop course above the village of Embleton, 2 miles East of Cockermouth. 18 holes par 69 with unrivalled views to the Lakeland fells and across the Solway Firth to Southern Scotland.

Keswick has an 18 hole 6175 yd par 71 fell and parkland course near the village of Threlkeld, 2 miles to the East of Keswick.

Slightly further afield are seaside courses at Maryport, Workington, St Bees and a new course at Whitehaven. For a genuine links course travel the short distance North to Silloth where a quality, ancient course awaits either the keen golfer or the gorse specialist! Another quality course is inland at Penrith where there is also a driving range.
