On the outskirts of Cockermouth, the Lakeland Sheep and Wool Centre tells all about the most numerous resident in the Lake District and has a sheep show every day.

Trotters Farm is close by at Bassenthwaite where animals can be studied and fed at close quarters.

Maryport Aquarium has wonderful exhibits of local sea life forms and also in Maryport is Clown-a-Round a soft play centre for children.

Down the coast, the famous 'Ratty' - Ravenglass to Eskdale small guage railway is a great family day out.
